Yes. It's like that with a lot of things. Conspiracy theory believers are the same way. It's not that they actually believe the bullshit, it's that they want to be in on some secret information and feel involved, like they know what others do not. In that hope to achieve it they will adopt beliefs they normally would reject because it allows them that fantasy.
