It WAS as bad as people act. Its a matter of age. When I watched it first, I just finished school and I still liked anime, so the style and subject matter were extremely cringe to me. I still watched it because of a weird fascination.

Today I got nostalgic for school cringe and I find the imperfect "a weeb drew that in school" style quite charming. As far as I know, the creator was Birch in mind (but not in looks, yikes).

Also the creators were terrible at drawing fat people.
