It's because if Season 1 does well, then they get money to make Season 2. I mean, they have flip phones which were predominant with students in 2010, while very rare in the early 2000s. And even if it was produced in like 2009 it still wouldn't be out of the ballpark for it to generally fit in the high school cartoon sitcom zeitgeist of 2010. And on top of that it's like you're suggesting that if I'm wrong and it actually is based on the early 2000s, then that would be because it takes like 8 years to produce two seasons of a cartoon series, rather than because of an intentional creative decision.

Well, Liam and Birch are related and otherwise, I thought it was just in the sleepover episode.
They appear in each others rooms to do homework or something together and it always lacked an establishing shot in which house they currently are.
Generally, nothing is fleshed out. Characters chance personality and dynamics in each episode, characters suddenly crush on each other and then not, Sandra is sometimes bullying Birch harsher than usual, and I dont even understand if they are popular or not. It seems noone wants to hand out with them even though Raffy is like the hottest guy at school and Sandra is a cheerleader.
