I love how falling for le female protagonist (totally organic and legit and not at all motivated by ideological considerations btw) meme killed the IP. Ghost of Sushi was quite beloved and there was no doubt a sequel would have done phenomenally, if only because AC: Shadows was a dumpster fire but they had to squander it for brownie points.
What's even funnier is that if they made her hot and gave her skimpy outfits it would have been fine. Modern devs just can't read the room, it's like they deliberately self sabotage.
