>To get one you need to be certified you can maintain and handle a gun, you have to have no history of mental illness (even in your close family), and I believe resit the certification every 2 years
I completely agree with that system.
> sadly gang crimes exist and black market weapons are in the hands of gangers. But publicly it is extremely rare for a gun to be used in a crime
I’m sorry to say this anon but they won’t be going away any time soon, guns are simply too easy for criminals to self assemble and manufacture these days with printers and even if you legislate printers they’ll still just file down metal. Unless you ban metal, some criminals will just always have guns.
The bright side is that with an increase in trusting your own (good) civilian population comes a decrease in the likelihood that a criminal will use an illegal firearm for a crime. Not to mention their manufacturing standards are usually well below reputable manufacturers. So long story short, it won’t matter too much as long as the number of legal gun owners outweighs the amount of criminals manufacturing registered firearms by at least a factor of 1:50

War time operations are largely moving past firearms these days anyway. I don’t know if you know but AK47’s and the like are completely useless in Ukraine at the moment. Drones with bombs are the new thing, and guns can’t really do much against them. Guns are fast becoming a farmer’s only type of tool, and less of a weapon as we progress into the future.
Eventually guns that shoot brass bullets will be laughed at as extremely primitive. We will have things much more powerful, and already are starting to.
