Why would they even need “dedicated servers”? Why not just make a local multiplayer component like the good old days?

This is why I always found the "character is above fiction" thing to be a nonfeat. The character never comes out into our reality to do...anything. Never comes to say hello, or punch someone, the author still has to be the one to make them do it, and they never actually do it.
