The 2 most hated cards were an allusion to Mario Kart. Tropes aren't inherently good or bad it's a matter of both expectations and execution. Dragonstorm tried to rid itself of many tropes and people disliked those changes.
1.The Sultai are no longer an evil empire
2.The Abzan have more colorful clothing and armour.
With Ætherborn the people weren't complaining about the tropes but rather the mechanics. People not like vehicles. Start your engine being a terrible name. And just disliking specific characters. Loot being on many cards.
A good trope is subjective as some people will like and others will hate.
