>>96068238 (OP)>TQI've been waiting for them to print this card for years now, it's too bad it looks like it's from a shitty sci-fi movie. Even still, this set was actually a lot better than I was expecting, ignoring my insect tribal obsession. It's kinda funny how UB sets have forced them to actually put in significant effort into designing these in-universe sets, since making funny Mario Kart references will feel redundant once they end up doing an actual kart-racing crossover.

There's a difference between "the smallest unit in the game is 1, which includes a variety of creatures" to "a galaxy is smaller than a city". Even if the numbers don't make sense going from 1 to 2, from 2 to 3 and so on, the relative sizes should be ordered.
If Timmy wants to play a big ass creature and his big ass creature is actually really tiny ackstually because the developers constantly mismatch the scale of the game, how does he feel?

Even if the numbers don't make sense going from 1 to 2, from 2 to 3 and so on, the relative sizes should be ordered. The responsible, good-design thing would be to simply put a reasonable cap on the scale of things within the game. The top of that cap is Emrakul.
If it's supposed to be bigger than Emrakul, it doesn't exist. Case closed.
But if you HAVE to be a flaming retard and make le EPIC space monsters!!! Then yes, you should at least have the good sense to scale them appropriately stat-wise. Mechanics ought to mirror lore, and that includes the size of bodies.
But WotC is utterly committed to executing the worst ideas possible, as poorly as possible. So, we get EoE.

>>96069347>it serves its purpose of making the cards in the card game more interestingSadly, this is a case of the worldbuilding not being reflected at all in the cards / art. >>96069655hahahahahaah of course the premodern favela schizo is an alchemy kid who has never played paper magic in its life
>>96069707Mono-white has some polarizing matchups.
It's a boardwipe tribal deck that draws 3 cards a turn
but it plays entirely at sorcery speed so it's soft to combo.
>>96069347God there's some ideas in this story I absolutely love.
Fighting an enemy with the power to alter the past but not the present, meaning the enemy can change past circumstances in any way that cause them to still lead up to the present state of things.
So what do you do? set up the most chaotically deterministic system possible centered on your own individual particulars so nothing about your current (or past) actions or qualities can ever be changed in even the slightest way without creating a different outcome.
I love this.
Also the twins (one eaten by the black hole, one escaped) are obvious symbolism for the (layman's understanding of) hawking radiation, where two virtual particles are created at the event horizon and only one escapes.
Also hole-in-the-hand that lets you do magical things, obvious jesus allegory. Both of these things won't be appreciated by 99% of readers though I suspect. Shame. There's stuff to enjoy here.
Were mh3 packs mappable? I bought some random packs for a whacky draft and the two mh3s I got had like seven cards in common.

>>96069655>premodern spammer is the arena schizoit makes sense now, it's the same brazilian
Just so you know, online is very rigged.
I specifically put FOUR Wildfire Howls into my deck of 60 specifically for these situations where retards just spam weak minions to prevent me from getting to them.
In this situation where as many minions and turns as you can imagine had been played, I never saw one of those fucking cards once. Spent turn after turn saying fucking Wildfire Howl now, fucking Wildfire Howl now please. Did not see one. Four cards in 60. Easily over 40 turns. You tell me.
This shit happens all the time. Iโll have cards I need that magically dry up despite being saturated in the deck, like randomly not getting lands for ten turns at a time when I need them, then nothing but lands when I need real cards.
Itโs beyond random or just unfortunate.
I ended up conceding the game in picrel after between 40-50 turns because I was just tired of the bullshit. Over thirty minutes later and I still had not seen the one card I needed. At that point he was even getting dangerous because he had an infinitude of 1/1 soldiers and was casting spells to cut down on my own cards. Just retarded.
>>96070335Had neither of you done any damage at that point?
>>96070379Probably what 90% of newbie games are like.
>>96070379Heโs just coincidentally back at 25. I hit him hard and fast early and took him down to 7. After that he started spamming weak minions to stave off defeat as I expected, so I played the Authority of the Counsels I had been saving. At that point all I needed was one of the fucking FOUR Wildfire Howls I had to finish him off. Turn after turn he kept blissfully spamming 1/1s and using cards that automatically spammed new 1/1s while I sat there gaining infinite life and waiting for a single Wildfire Howl. This absurdity extended easily over half an hour, maybe more like an hour. At some point he gained some life back ig.
>control is unplayable
>gonna be even worse after rotation
>>96070398You gotta get more creative.
>>96070433No, I donโt. Iโm not the problem. I never get Wildfire Howl in these situations, yet I get other cards that I only have 1 or 2 of every game. Every game. I ALWAYS get Cut In, which you see in the pic right on cue, as an example. There is one of those. I originally had 2 Wildfire Howls and went out of my way to max it out and get it for fucking once. The app was so determined to still fuck me that youโll even get the pic I posted before it indulges me. It will literally make it the last four cards of the entire game before it gives me one. That is not on me. Iโm doing my part to craft my deck with cards for specific situations. When itโs rigged and refuses to give me those cards in those situations thereโs nothing I can do.
In this game I had other angles than just Wildfire Howl. I had a Hallowed Priest that was over 30 power that I gave the ability to fly for instance, his next card was conveniently one that returned it to my hand. He did this multiple times and kept getting exactly the cards he needed. It got to the point that I just needed the Wildfire Howl. And it was never going to come.
>>96070460>It will literally make it the last four cards of the entire game before it gives me oneOk so just wait until then?
>>96070470You canโt tell by my pic because the design of the app is shit but there is miles of his cards to either side. I had the upper hand for most of the game but his amount of cards had become overwhelming. I needed it like a twenty turns ago. The tide had turned.
Itโs also just the principle of the thing, the fact that it was so resolutely refusing to give me the card that I was at risk of losing such a game is unacceptable. Thatโs a go fuck yourself moment not a gee whiz letโs see what happens, fun game! moment.
While Iโm venting, Iโm going to post the most broken cards in this piece of shit game that Iโve encountered so far.
Letโs start with this one. Somehow played by an opponent within the first couple turns. I donโt know how.
Conceded instantly.
>>96069142>Spend 6 turns stationing a space ship. >Opponent plays this dude and flickers it for 2 mana, removing all of its counters and forcing it to start over Lmao
Then thereโs this retarded shit. Iโm pretty sure Iโve been seeing one like this thatโs also hexproof but I canโt find it. But anyway this card or one like will just plop down and never leave, preventing all damage.
Urza's Sage price just wen up 50% ~ holy.....
>>96068561>carrying a glowing staff>can raise people from the dead>citizen
>>96070522>>96070555Look in to something called "removal", I think you'll find it quite useful.
>>96070888>Another league card gameIf this is anything like Legends of Runeterra, Riot will abandon it within about a year
>>96070917They'll give up on it whenever the card game bubble pops. I assume that's why they got into the card game market in the first place.
>>96070962Why is there a TCG bubble in the first place? I would think the social acceptability, low price and increased ease of access of video games like Valorant would be impossible for TCGs to compete with given that they're much more of a commitment
>deck full of boardwipes/extra turns/etc.
>haste/triggered effect doublers/counterspells to protect her
would this annoy you personally? I play it against my friend since it amuses him (and he gets to play it) but I worry about playing it with other people
>>96070996Money expenditure is typically a barrier of entry but it does not mean the cheaper hobby will always win. Gaming can be very expensive and popular at the same time (gacha games). Making people spend money is more about psychology than some form of utilitarian analysis.
Magic also kinda got early before gaming became a widely accepted hobby and people still like holding onto things (physical book vs ebook, going to concert vs listening to studio recorded digital releases).
>>96070996>Why is there a TCG bubble in the first place?>I would think the social acceptability, low price and increased ease of access of video games like Valorant would be impossible for TCGs to compete withIt's not about the collection itself, it's about the nostalgia. People collect things they always wanted to have as a kid. For Boomers and Gen X, those were usually expensive cars. For Millennials, it's usually gaming rooms will all the gaming components they could ever want. You had people collecting an entire library's worth in 8-bit and/or 16-bit games in the 2000s, now you have people collecting every card ever printed and putting them in dozens of binders like that one pic from a couple threads ago. They do it because it's as close as they'll ever get to feeling like they've achieved that they've always wanted in life.
>>96070996Ever since people found out how much they could flip Pokรฉmon cards in the pandemic there's been a bit of a second TCG bubble albeit more focused on collecting rather than playing. It's why Magic now has like 5 different alt art and foil treatments for every set and why this league game will now doubt have super mega ultra foil versions of popular champs
>>96070650New Saga rulings?
>>96070888i don't think this game will do very well. it looks interesting but if every deck needs a champion i can't imagine these packs being draftable and i doubt anyone would want to drop $100-$500 for a deck to play a brand new tcg considering fab and sorcery are starting to wane in popularity.

>>96073436>RG is easier to cast than GG?????
>>96073436>can't be countered isn't relevantIt's relevant in modern. JotC is printing cards entirely just for modern and cummander now.
>>96073544if you have two copperline gorges, you can cast an RG, RR or GG spell
if you have a mountain and copperline gorge, you can cast an RG spell or RR spell but not GG spell
if you have a forest and copperline gorge, you can cast an RG spell or GG spell but not RR spell
if you have a forest and mountain you can cast an RG spell but not RR or GG
if you have a forest and forest you can cast a GG spell but not RG or RR
if you have a mountain and mountain you can cast an RR spell but not GG or RG
these six permutations stand in for all the ways to cast spells with some lands that make 2 colors and some that only make 1
of those 6 permutations, there are 4 ways to cast RG and only 3 ways to cast RR or GG, and when you're locked out of RG its because you kept an unlikely hand that only has access to one color of mana which locks you out of over half your deck so you probably needed to mulligan
yet its easier to get a hand which has both colors of mana, but can't cast one of either RR or GG spells
basic concept has always existed in MTG, its always easier to cast spells with 1XY instead of 1XX or 1YY, and a card with XXX like necropotence basically means you need every land in your deck to make X mana
>>96069033>12 instant free damage in every opening hand for every deckIt's a kind of balance I guess... But you could just update starting life to be 8 instead.

>>96074281It's not because of the complaints that feedback should begin to show up by next year or 2027. It's because of Universe Beyond they don't want to make off-brand Spider-man when the next set has actual Spiderman. In fact the article only forbids allusions but not tropes. Meaning we'll still get tropes like 'creepy twins' but not actual allusions the twins from the Shining.
>>96074626That's a thing?

>>96074696I mean, like, that's "believing in the apocalypse". I think that's different from "actively wanting it to happen quicker"
Most apocalyptic religions wanted to PREVENT the end of the world. I think it doesn't really make sense for Christianity to try and make it happen quicker, doesn't God want you to be generally good? Trying to force the end of the world (and presumably the deaths of millions) sounds like the sort of stuff that'd get you sent into Hell when it actually happens.
>>96074671I mean if they're doing sets based on genres they kinda have to do the tropes to some extent. Mark also called out that what some people THINK are allusions are actually just tropes, but people lack familiarity with the genre outside of one big thing.
>>96074640Haha!

>>96074661The first novel is totally great. Fun detective story with Ravnica as a backdrop, and the climax is personally really memorable to me. The quality goes down as you go along, replaced by the final book with body swaps an kaiju slop. But if you are a fan of Ravnica I highly recommend reading at least the first novel, Cory J Herndon does a great job fleshing out the plane. I fondly remember him visiting MTGSalvation chats to do Q&A's back in the day. Wish he'd had more work with Magic.

2.The Antichrist will establish a 7-year "peace" covenant with Israel
3.The temple will be rebuilt in Jerusalem

Trying to force the end of the world (and presumably the deaths of millions) sounds like the sort of stuff that'd get you sent into Hell when it actually happens. It's not relevant to millenarianism though being good to others and following the commandments are the teachings of Jesus and his disciples.
>>96074696>millenairianismIs correctly understood, when removed from the slander of people who disagree with it or even misuse, to simply be the belief in a literal millennial kingdom. As in แผฯฮฟฮบฮฌฮปฯ
ฯฮนฯ 20:1-6 where after Jesus is said to have returned, where Jesus and his followers are supposed to rule over the world. It has nothing to do with forcing the return of Christ or the end of the ฮฑแผฐฯฮฝ (age; not world). A proper understanding of Christian dogma, the scriptures, and the language would imply that such a thing cannot be forced. That would be more of something you would find in Jewish messianism such as that of the Frankist movement or Sabbatai Zevi's cult. But then again the American Evangelical movement is religion for Shabbos goy.
Moreover, a proper understand of the bible would lead one to realize that no one goes to heaven at the end of the ฮฑแผฐฯฮฝ, rather everyone would inherit a perfected Earth after the millenium. Any idea that people can bring about the apocalypse sooner has nothing to do with Traditional Millennialism as would be found in the beliefs of the early church fathers.

>>96073346These are a bit different from the necromonger. Necromonger faith don't want anything to do with the end of the universe or anything, they want to travel to their special holy land to reunite with their dead relatives. Also their marshals get wicked ghost powers while doing so.
The Monoist looks at the end as a form of unification and rebirth for into the new universe. They have more in common with say, cultists in Grim Dawn who believe that dying is a means to return themselves to their true god.
I actually kinda dig this faction. I don't think they are like wholly original but a lot of bits and pieces do stick. Having some sort of noble purpose (unification) makes an evil faction a bit more believable. Also, their idea of "heaven" has scientific theories behind it, so it is a very distorted take on real life faiths (the regular man just wants his 72 virgins). I also dig their costumes (the whole space jellyfish motif).
Can't give a shit about anything else in the set though.
>>96074687Modern day accelerationism is belief and a movement being spread within and throughout all of the the current online right wing, ranging from your average twitter conservative boomers wanting "to let it all burn down", to the whateverpilled 4channers doomer-posting with the good-times-bad-times-bad-men pastas, to the right wing white-suremacists and other terror groups such as the O9A. The usual core tenets of it are that the society is heading towards an inevitable tolerant leftist hellscape with a total collapse as the unavoidable end result and as the only way out it... Making the hastening of the arrival of that total collapse via discord, strife, fear and violence a moral good.
The movement holds strong similarities with an earlier "accelerationists" movement, a group within fascists in Italy that wanted the world to "accelerate" through conflict, war, destruction and death, to hasten the cultural, economic and technological progress of mankind towards a golden age.
So it's a thing. Just with a religious twist. Religious accelerationism. Aka. A doomsday cult.

>print aggro cards that snowball only if you go firstthis is also literally every aggro card
>>96076276>Thats literally every aggro card though.>this is also literally every aggro cardNo only cards that produce an advantage above the normal draw/go advantage
Look at a card like Liliana of the Veil
On the play the opponent usually only has 0-1 creatures to deal with her and she can -2 to protect herself, then next turn she can tick up and you can hold removal for anything they play, and now she can -2 again if they play a third threat, she locked up the game on her own
On the draw, the opponent might have 2-3 creatures when you play her, she kills one, takes an attack from the other. They have more mana to haste in something to kill her even if she cleared the board.
>>96076153These are the only tropes I noticed.

5.Racing host talks a lot
6.Slow and steady wins the race/Underdog victory
7.Cheaters take dangerous shortcut
8. Adrenaline Junkie
9. Animal interferes in race
10.A scoreboard keeps viewers informed
Only 7 of them are specifically racing tropes.
>>96076226>The usual core tenets of it are that the society is heading towards an inevitable tolerant leftist hellscape with a total collapse as the unavoidable end result and as the only way out it... Making the hastening of the arrival of that total collapse via discord, strife, fear and violence a moral good. The accelerationists are far right ideologues who cheer far left victories, because they believe it brings the culture closer to an inevitable right wing backlash. This may or may not involve a societal collapse. If they are incorrect about the "inevitable" right wing backlash, they ironically serve as allies to the far left. Prominent examples include Nick Fuentes and his Groyper movement, right wing ideologues who actively campaigned against Trump in the last election.
It's worth noting that there is a left equivalent, though more normalized and maybe less virulent, of people who cheer calamity because they believe any faults or tragedies that befall society at large are indictments of capitalism, and if enough of them accumulate then the communist/socialist utopia will begin to form. I don't see much difference between that and some crazy right wingers who believe their race utopia will form if only enough black people make planes fall out of the sky.

>I attack with 2 Wildfire Wickerfolk and a Fomo on delirium
>He asks me which creature I target with extra combat and I said one of the wickerfolks
>He flashes in floodpits drowner to stun the one I targetted, chump blocking Fomo with the fae token, and mass blocking the unstunned Wildfire Wickerfolk with the drowner and the other fae token so the trample damage only does 2 damage bringing him to 1
Did I get scammed out of this interaction? FOMO extra combat only triggers during attack, so even if he stunned the attacking wickerfolk I chose for extra combat it wouldve still been attacking. So even if he stunned one of them before combat I would just choose another creature to do extra combat with
>>96076347Yes, you got scammed
FOMOs ability only goes on the stack after attackers are declared
Tapping a creature to prevent it from attacking can only be done prior to declaring attackers
Tapping a wildfire after its attacking doesn't remove it from combat

>>96076089Good morning I hate WotC
I'm guessing ravager affinity wouldn't be competetive in the modern day?
>>96074820The sad thing is: even if it was a detective story it was still fantasy and didn't tried to go to "sherlock homes" looks (that Ravnica ClueDo did) but certainly had its soul.
It was a fantasy police story with the main character using "ghost trapper" to interrogate the ghost of the victim of a crime for exemple.
It has some good "every day" scenes of Ravnica.
>>96075646>rise of the eldrazi and theros.I think you are thinking about the collection boxes, right. The ones they did for Return to Ravnica, Khans of Tarkir, Battle for Zendikar, Theros, and Kaladesh (poop city). If so, yeah, they stopped. If it is bundle like your image then they haven't.

UB Midrange is just "2-for-1 the enemy until the end of time" and that is literally what midrange means
Newbie here, jumped in because I like Final Fantasy.
I'm kind of turned off by the sheer capitalist nature of this game, it's treated as an investment instead of just a hobby
most of the youtube content I've seen when trying to look into the game is people opening packs and talking about their monetary value
Even at the shop when I bought my one magic box the clerk said "don't worry even if you end up not liking the game you can sell the box for 5 times it's current value in 10 years"
I'm a Warhammer player and there isn't this sense that I'm supposed to be making anything back on my "investment" in that hobby, it's just cool things that I paint and play with, I might sell some of it later but it won't ever be for a profit.
Apologies if it seems like I'm coming here just to attack your game, the game itself seems fun, I guess I just didn't expect to become part of an economic system when I wanted to play a fun card game with Cloud and Sephiroth.
>>96078763Buying mtg is retarded. Print cards yourself (in the op) or give your money to chinamen for fakes of various qualities. Noone gives a shit if you own real cards or not unless you're playing in tournaments.
>>96076473Robot bros? Finally a good one!
>>96078763Don't worry. We attack our game in a daily basis. Because it's a corpse on life support.
There are always cheaper formats if you just want to fuck around and find out. Like Pauper, which uses only cards of common rarity. But even there, there are exceptions.
There's also Arena, a computer video game, which is a decent way to try. But even this can be expensive.
There are also card lending programs. Where you pay a subscription, say $5 up front, and you get to pick and trade back and forth to play around with the cards you want. That's on MTGO, the computer "simulator" (not a video game). The prices there are different too.
Yeah I despise these people too.
>>96074718Look into Evangelicals, the apocalypse isn't the day everyone gets killed to them. It's the day Jesus takes all the good boys and ascends to chicken nuggie land, and they cannot wait to get to chicken nuggie land. Being a good Evangelical also doesn't mean being what anyone else would consider a good person.
>>96078818honestly doesn't seem very good
for 1 mana it does literally nothing on its own
you need to stick the 3 mana side or chain other spells which means probably needing 3+ mana anyway
we already have Third Path Iconoclast in standard and its seeing ZERO play even with cori steel banned. Sure it will rotate too but its legal right now and zero play
And iconclast robots can actually block. This makes 1/1 tokens that can't block, you dump all your mana into this and get run over?
>>96078763I haven't played mtg for 20 years but came for FF set. Opened 4 collectors for fun and had blast.

>>96077330>that isn't how deckbuilding or mana curves workThe traditional burn deck is all 1-2 mana spells with make one 3-cost and a few that let you cast by sac'ing a couple mountains.
>>96079318>>96077330I cast a qarsi revenant
Opponent throws a goat at it, trades 1:1 and he's up 1 mana in tempo
I cast a cecil and drowner
Opponent can throw goat at drowner but the trigger already tapped down his creature, or go down 1 mana tempo on cecil
So why don't we just flood our decks with lots of 1-2 drops?
>you run out of cards, opponent plays bigger stuffwhich is true except
>bob draws cards>bronco draws cards>siren draws a landPreacher / gix / curiosity draw cards but just slapping mockingbird on bob or bronco is a lower curve and gix will rotate

>>96079349This. One of the reasons why control is so weak now too is because they all keep putting all these expensive spells into the deck when they should've been trying to get the mana curve down to average cost 2 or less.
