I've been waiting for them to print this card for years now, it's too bad it looks like it's from a shitty sci-fi movie. There's a difference between "the smallest unit in the game is 1, which includes a variety of creatures" to "a galaxy is smaller than a city". Even if the numbers don't make sense going from 1 to 2, from 2 to 3 and so on, the relative sizes should be ordered.

The responsible, good-design thing would be to simply put a reasonable cap on the scale of things within the game. The top of that cap is Emrakul.
If it's supposed to be bigger than Emrakul, it doesn't exist. Case closed.

But if you HAVE to be a flaming retard and make le EPIC space monsters!!! Then yes, you should at least have the good sense to scale them appropriately stat-wise. Mechanics ought to mirror lore, and that includes the size of bodies.

God there's some ideas in this story I absolutely love.

Fighting an enemy with the power to alter the past but not the present, meaning the enemy can change past circumstances in any way that cause them to still lead up to the present state of things.

So what do you do? set up the most chaotically deterministic system possible centered on your own individual particulars so nothing about your current (or past) actions or qualities can ever be changed in even the slightest way without creating a different outcome.

I love this.

Also the twins (one eaten by the black hole, one escaped) are obvious symbolism for the (layman's understanding of) hawking radiation, where two virtual particles are created at the event horizon and only one escapes.

Also hole-in-the-hand that lets you do magical things, obvious jesus allegory. Both of these things won't be appreciated by 99% of readers though I suspect. Shame. There's stuff to enjoy here.

Just so you know, online is very rigged.
I specifically put FOUR Wildfire Howls into my deck of 60 specifically for these situations where retards just spam weak minions to prevent me from getting to them.
In this situation where as many minions and turns as you can imagine had been played, I never saw one of those fucking cards once. Spent turn after turn saying fucking Wildfire Howl now, fucking Wildfire Howl now please. Did not see one. Four cards in 60. Easily over 40 turns. You tell me.
This shit happens all the time. I’ll have cards I need that magically dry up despite being saturated in the deck, like randomly not getting lands for ten turns at a time when I need them, then nothing but lands when I need real cards.
It’s beyond random or just unfortunate.
I ended up conceding the game in picrel after between 40-50 turns because I was just tired of the bullshit. Over thirty minutes later and I still had not seen the one card I needed. At that point he was even getting dangerous because he had an infinitude of 1/1 soldiers and was casting spells to cut down on my own cards. Just retarded.

He’s just coincidentally back at 25. I hit him hard and fast early and took him down to 7. After that he started spamming weak minions to stave off defeat as I expected, so I played the Authority of the Counsels I had been saving. At that point all I needed was one of the fucking FOUR Wildfire Howls I had to finish him off. Turn after turn he kept blissfully spamming 1/1s and using cards that automatically spammed new 1/1s while I sat there gaining infinite life and waiting for a single Wildfire Howl. This absurdity extended easily over half an hour, maybe more like an hour. At some point he gained some life back ig.

No, I don’t. I’m not the problem. I never get Wildfire Howl in these situations, yet I get other cards that I only have 1 or 2 of every game. Every game. I ALWAYS get Cut In, which you see in the pic right on cue, as an example. There is one of those. I originally had 2 Wildfire Howls and went out of my way to max it out and get it for fucking once. The app was so determined to still fuck me that you’ll even get the pic I posted before it indulges me. It will literally make it the last four cards of the entire game before it gives me one. That is not on me. I’m doing my part to craft my deck with cards for specific situations. When it’s rigged and refuses to give me those cards in those situations there’s nothing I can do.
In this game I had other angles than just Wildfire Howl. I had a Hallowed Priest that was over 30 power that I gave the ability to fly for instance, his next card was conveniently one that returned it to my hand. He did this multiple times and kept getting exactly the cards he needed. It got to the point that I just needed the Wildfire Howl. And it was never going to come.

You can’t tell by my pic because the design of the app is shit but there is miles of his cards to either side. I had the upper hand for most of the game but his amount of cards had become overwhelming. I needed it like a twenty turns ago. The tide had turned.

Money expenditure is typically a barrier of entry but it does not mean the cheaper hobby will always win. Gaming can be very expensive and popular at the same time (gacha games). Making people spend money is more about psychology than some form of utilitarian analysis.
Magic also kinda got early before gaming became a widely accepted hobby and people still like holding onto things (physical book vs ebook, going to concert vs listening to studio recorded digital releases).

It's not about the collection itself, it's about the nostalgia. People collect things they always wanted to have as a kid. For Boomers and Gen X, those were usually expensive cars. For Millennials, it's usually gaming rooms will all the gaming components they could ever want. You had people collecting an entire library's worth in 8-bit and/or 16-bit games in the 2000s, now you have people collecting every card ever printed and putting them in dozens of binders like that one pic from a couple threads ago. They do it because it's as close as they'll ever get to feeling like they've achieved that they've always wanted in life.

I actually kinda dig this faction. I don't think they are like wholly original but a lot of bits and pieces do stick. On the draw, the opponent might have 2-3 creatures when you play her, she kills one, takes an attack from the other. They have more mana to haste in something to kill her even if she cleared the board.

Newbie here, jumped in because I like Final Fantasy.

I'm kind of turned off by the sheer capitalist nature of this game, it's treated as an investment instead of just a hobby
most of the youtube content I've seen when trying to look into the game is people opening packs and talking about their monetary value
Even at the shop when I bought my one magic box the clerk said "don't worry even if you end up not liking the game you can sell the box for 5 times it's current value in 10 years"

I'm a Warhammer player and there isn't this sense that I'm supposed to be making anything back on my "investment" in that hobby, it's just cool things that I paint and play with, I might sell some of it later but it won't ever be for a profit.

There are always cheaper formats if you just want to fuck around and find out. Like Pauper, which uses only cards of common rarity. But even there, there are exceptions.
There's also Arena, a computer video game, which is a decent way to try. But even this can be expensive.
There are also card lending programs. Where you pay a subscription, say $5 up front, and you get to pick and trade back and forth to play around with the cards you want. That's on MTGO, the computer "simulator" (not a video game). The prices there are different too.
