I think he's a very cute and sweet boy :(( the intended reading is that he's not human, but he has an internal emotional state and is certainly a person. He's concentrated moe, pure as the driven snow, and enjoys making the townspeople and kids happy. I'm perfectly able to understand disliking him, but it's a little strange that some people barely seem to consider him a character
