Listening to picrel again cause I'm trying to compare the AOTY contenders so far. I still haven't listened to that Kadath Great Old Ones album but I've got it queued up and ready to go.
The other contenders:

Regardless of ranking, this year has been especially good for metal I think. The new Lorna Shore comes out in September I think and while I wasn't big on the single they released from that album, Pain Remains grew a lot on me too, but I'm hoping they'll go really hard on the symphonic element at least on some tracks y'know.
