I imagine that the imitators get good enough that Dess starts to feel like a psycho for even existing in that place. These things that used to be completely fake and unrecognizable are now “living” out lives.
Even if they are ultimately faked, no actual thought behind it, the way they’d react to her existence and what she does while still trying to hurt her might genuinely start to tear at her psyche since “they’re just defending themselves from her” is what it would look and seem like.
She’s simply trying to survive literal hell, but the longer it goes on the better it gets at torturing her. It’s like if Silent Hill wasn’t trying to force you to confront your trauma/guilt but instead heap it on.
