I think I mainly do it by darting my hand at them from behind their flight path or in odd angles. Also, a lot of practice.
I practice lots of useless skills that are very esoteric and of limited specific purpose but help me overall.
It's a bit like in True Memoirs of an International Assassin where Kevin James practiced and confirmed his fictional character could catch a gun and fire it in one movement. It's impressive but if limited utility.
