LAPD are actually more professional than the LA Sheriff's Department. If you fail the psychological evaluation for LAPD, then the chances are pretty good that you can still qualify to join the LA Sheriff's Department. LA Sheriff's are way less professional, they have tattooed gangs in the department, and you can basically be a corrupt immature dirty cop there and get away with it. LAPD has a longer history of direct oversight and federal scrutiny, and they can't get away with being completely corrupt and incompetent.
