where's the body?

I rewatched Paranoia Agent recently because I remember seeing it on cartoon network as a kid and it left an impression but it was mostly really mediocre except for two or three stand-out episodes with Happy Family Planning far and away being the absolute best.

As I get older I crave increasingly more depressing trauma porn from my media and with isekai being the most popular anime genre currently and slice of life being dominant before that I've been avoiding anime for decades.

I've asked for recommendations multiple times in multiple places and repeatedly just get trash and slop recommended to me, or sometimes even tasteless artless edgelord shit that feels like the era of family guy where stewie was vivisecting people.

I want a fucking anime that makes me feel the way I felt when I watched The Shining as a kid, or lodges itself in my brain the way Midsommar did. I just don't think it's the medium for those kinds of experiences.
