most short lil mobile games are akin to early arcade games, like pacman or qbert. and in 90s-early 2000s we get impressive stuff like carnevil and subnautica. in-depth stuff.
i'm way outside of video gaming loops these days and have little knowledge, but something tingling at the back of my mind says that famiclones are waiting to resurface, like a forgotten sea monster hiding under a lake. waiting to be forgotten so he can surprise everyone again.

my main takeaway from indie games when i tried out only the very few i had access to back around 2015, was how vastly different vg dev is for small teams, vs how it was in the days of NES, SNES, those generations. i'm not even educated on how vg are made, but it was striking how DIFFERENT a small team of 10 paid professionals making something for nes was from a massively crowdfunded currentyear pc game. what was the budget of these post-2015 indie games, vs the product? most of them just fizzle out and die pathetically. at least crap shovelware in 1992 was made by a sufficiently funded team and it got published and people spat on it for years to come.

oh btw here's this. there's some insider push to make undertale "the citizen kane of vg". maybe a smarter person can give their opinion on the meaning of this.
