I hope am not misrepresenting your idea, but I might feel the same way, I mean I don't like when a romcom is filled with ecchi but in a way that doesn't contribute to the narrative, for example "Sora no Otoshimono" the ecchi moment usually just create more friction between characters, is the typical "oh you saw me naked I'll bash your head ah ah", or "Dress up darling" which made a big deal about the girl's sex appeal, one chapter had the guy get a boner from her and then........he can't even bring himself to hold hands with her in public, how can that be enjoyable to watch?
I far enjoy a romance like Houkago Kitaku Biyori, despite the fact that they are still not together and there is no ecchi whatsoever the lead feels closer than it ever did in Dress up darling and many other 100+ chapters "romcoms".

Because readers have shit taste, "Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms" is 181 chapters plus an anime season, no signs of ending and a retracted confession, multiple girls despite the winner being in the title and the synopsys.
