I think so too, but I've never been able to put into words why that is. Albus' attempts at protecting his little sister, Shanoa dropping the Simon's Quest quote then crying at the end of the game hit surprisingly harder than most other stories even if objectively it's just as simple a story. It's just well told, and the artstyle not being 2000s anime like the other two DS titles sure helped in transmiting gravitas.
