I don't know what happened, but even in 2008 - 2012, games had this sort of vibrancy with their graphics that made gaming at that time feel more fun and alive than it does now.
I don't know if it was because the graphics were more crisp and detailed back then because the focus was on what they can present frontally, whereas the entire focus today is everything being shaded, blurred, and fogged now.
