there's not really any thing left to gatekeep. 95% of modern seasonal anime is just CR/NF rips with official subs. Actual translation groups are dying out not helped by the whole video game culture war backlash against translators, corpo AI shilling etc. Most English translations will either be crappy MTL or crappy third language translations.

It's not like the boomer days where you had to know somebody who could copy VHS master tapes for you.
