I remember attending events for Mew and Celebi during gen2, and then for the Eon Ticket and Deoxys during gen3 and it was really cool, especially the gen3 ones since we'd do a ton of record mixing and I filled my game with other people's secret bases that I can still visit today.
But I lived a 30min bus ride away from where the events were hosted, so I get that it was shitty for other people.
