The anime adaptations are good, especially for the spectacle, but the VN is still unmatched as far as the character writing and actually exploring the themes of the story and the worldbuilding. If you have not read the VN you still don't really know Fate/stay night.

Sometimes he does, other times he is just being suicidally self-sacrifical because that's a huge part of his character, like how do you not get that that's what lead to Archer existing?
Sometimes I think UBW anime did a pretty good job but there's always retards who can't think of anything beyond a surface level, who still probably wouldn't get it even reading the VN.
