I think you're right

Admittedly, I was a serial lurker for years and still have a habit of just not engaging even if I wanted to. Social anxiety and reclusiveness can do that.
Eventually I realized that me and other individuals of good taste and proper conduct are staying silent while the community and frontpage is dominated by posts and threads made by "individuals of a lower standard" who shitpost endlessly and don't even think about what they write. Those who can actually positively contribute to the conversation aren't engaging while those with nothing to say or add post in abundance. This lowers the quality of the community because eventually only garbage threads are being made and "quality posters" are left to deal with what little is actually being communicated.

Eventually I realized I'm almost "obligated" to post, reply, and make threads if I wanted the community to flourish. If I feel only garbage threads are being made, that's my fault as well for not making good threads and positively contributing and participating.
Even if socializing may be hard, we should encourage proper fans and otaku culture experts to talk more. It's the only way to raise the quality of the community.
Real fans SHOULD feel obligated to be social in the community. Good posters SHOULD feel obligated to make threads. Because if they don't the catalog will just be full of garbage.
