>Dom Justo Takayama Ukon (c. 1552–1615) was a Japanese Christian daimyō exiled for his faith.
Born into a feudal lord family, he converted to Christianity at a young age along with his father. He became a military commander and promoted Christianity within his domains.
>In 1587, Regent Toyotomi Hideyoshi issued an edict expelling Christian missionaries. Although Ukon initially retained his position, anti-Christian policies intensified under the Tokugawa shogunate. In 1614, Shōgun Tokugawa Ieyasu banned Christianity and ordered believers to renounce their faith. Ukon refused and was stripped of his land and title. He was exiled to Manila with around 300 other Japanese Christians.
>In Manila, under Spanish rule, Ukon was received with honor. Spanish and Jesuit officials considered supporting a Christian-backed return to Japan, possibly involving Ukon, but he did not support any military action. He died of illness in 1615, less than a year after arriving.
>He was beatified by the Catholic Church in 2017 as a martyr and is known as Blessed Justo Takayama Ukon.
