Everybody in the West knows that's a lie. Yanukovych quit. He could have stayed, but he knew he committed crimes against humanity when he ordered his Russian Berkut militia to open fire on nonviolent protesters. He freely went home to be with his handler Putin and remains to this day.

There was no coup. Sure millions of Ukrainians were angry at Yanukovych for ending their prospective economic opportunities with the EU. Yes, Ukrainians were upset about Yanukovych allowing FSB agents and agitators to disrupt the protests with violence. Of course they were mad over the FSB cracking thousands of skulls and disappearing dozens of opposition leaders. Absolutely they were outraged over Yanukovych's "Dictatorship Laws".

Despite all that, Yanukovych voluntarily chose to leave Ukraine on his own. He abandoned his office and abdicated his position and left the country. The next day the democratically-elected parliament had no choice but to accept Yanukovych's de facto resignation.

Here in the West, if you decide to stop showing up for work one day, sneak out of the country, become a Russian citizen, never to return - you have pretty much quit your job. HR sees it that way too.
