>You mean just like you're doing with the Japanese artist? You can't make this stuff up.
I made this thread. I've given 90% praise for this artists work and I even acknowledged the skill level of that image in another post of mine. My problem is that the subject matter and is boring and generic compared to what they used to do, which is some of the most soulful anime art I've ever seen. I'm not criticizing the technical ability of that piece, I'm criticizing the subject matter specifically in comparison to other works by the same artists.
Post art now.
>You can't analyze it to see how it works. Everything in it goes over your head.
No I can analyze it and see how it works. I can't recreate it, but I can certainly decode what the subject matter is and compare it to works by other artists, or in this case, the same artist. Pic rel is something I have trouble understanding.

>You call it "slop" because it's not culturally aligned with you and you don't get it.
It's a 2D girl, I get it.

>Actual "slop" means something low effort or low quality, not something with substantial technique and craft behind it.
I disagree. I think if a corporation hires a highly skilled artist to do a piece for them, that piece can absolutely be soulless, generic, corporate slop depending on the subject matter and how much creative freedom the artist has.

Answer the following question and (I won't reply to you seriously anymore if you ignore it): Would you say the same for marvel films? Can only experts criticize marvel films? What about politics? Should only politicians and legal experts be allowed to criticize the law and government?
