>Sonic's character has an established set of traits that define his personality and how he operates
For a certain narrative. If we change the narrative, he can operate differently and there is no inconsistency.
>You shouldn't change this just to suit your narrative
You're not making any sense. EVERY story has an implicit narrative that a writer wants to describe. If I write a story with a different narrative, how am I any different than the people who write the games? The only difference is which message we want to send.
In the case of the games, the narrative is that Sonic is le cool shounen Gary Stu. Thus, the narrative dictates that, whatever Sonic does, he is rewarded for it. If I change the narrative, and thus, change Sonic, I'm just doing the same thing the games are doing.
>you should write the narrative around his intended personality.
If I'm interpreting this correctly, then by that logic, the narrative should always be that Tails should be afraid and never step up and surpass Sonic, since that was his character during his conception. So the narrative should always punish Tails if he tries to be cooler than Sonic and reward him if he stays a little bitch forever, thus, the narrative is adapting to the character so he remains the same.
Or does this only apply to Sonic specifically?
>Otherwise, your story is inauthentic.
And what does that mean? Why is that a bad thing? Just saying that doesn't mean anything. That's how EVERY story is written, dum dum.
>you must understand how to actually write Sonic.
I do understand how to write Sonic in the current narrative. He's the wind or whatever. I will deconstruct him by creating a new one where he CAN be deconstructed.
