Nothing, really. Taco got a bunch of money from the state a long time ago after successfully lobbying for it due to their location in the panhandle and grew a bunch as a result. It's where kids go who can't get into the flagships and don't have the money for Baylor or don't want to live in Waco (which is reasonable). Texas State has threatened to take over their position as the also-ran institution in the state, thanks to their previous reputation as Southwest Texas party capital USA and proximity to civilization (and Austin) and if they go to the PAC I suspect tacofags will summon the ghost of Bob Bullock to try to sue their asses over something or other.

Tacoanon in this thread hypes up a recent grad who made it big flipping mineral rights and scamming old people, but a singular donor needs Nike money and connections to keep an athletic department running so he switched tactics. He made a big campaign donation to Trump, like 25 million per gossip, so look for him to be on some committee in the near future and to do everything he can to fuck over the SEC.
