Momonga is a necromancer themed wizard and many of the spells he uses are 1:1 direct references.
The best example of this is grasp heart, or as it's known in the ttrpg death clutch.
Regardless of the target's save, they are always staggered, which allows the caster to evaluate and choose a next move.

Many of the necromantic spells which Momonga was adept with possessed instant death properties, and this was one of them.
