Tariffs are a tax on the public. Foreign countries aren't paying it. The companies in America who want X item imported from another country and paying the tax which gets passed down to the consumer aka you. It's not complicated at all how this works. Taxes are unpopular but if you frame it like other countries are paying for it then the public isn't as upset. We have tried this in the past and it's failed spectacularly.
