I used to DJ in Second Life way back in the early 2000s and no, FF14 venues don't come close to how it was in Second Life. The charm of SL was that you just needed to be on the premise to hear the music the DJ (or radio) was playing or what they were saying. What you/others wore, saw and heard was right there on your and everyone's screen; no mods and other "outside" sources required.
In FF14, you need to have mods to see what everyone is actually wearing or if they have modded dances otherwise it's everyone doing the Bees Knees dance. You need to join some Twitch stream or a Discord server to hear the music the DJ is playing otherwise it's just silent or in-game music.
Yes, venues can be fun if you find the right one but it's nowhere near the freedom of SL. It's a totally different beast; to say FF14 does it better is a weird comparison to make.
