Roleplayers gained popularity during this time as well.
Dawntrail is essentially a bubble bursting. Endwalker was a big nostalgia trip and end of a storyline so a lot got a pass, but Dawntrail's MSQ being complete and utter garbage along with Wuk Lamat being shoved down people's throats made the bubble burst especially awful. Shadowbabs lost interest, wowfugees went back to war within, and yoshi p has somehow lost a decade of good will.
Part of the story issues seems to steam from the previous writer people were glazing being promoted to "managing" the story instead of directly writing it, and I'd say the results suggest she's not as good at managing a story as she is actually making it.

Yup. 14 hours of playing Other Games™. YoshiP really knows his audience. I'm so happy FFXIV respects my time and gives me a break instead of bogging me down with daily quests and checklists like some other games.
And the best part? The lodestone roulette of course. It's fun to flood the thread with images of our WoLs while our friends glaze us. I used to DJ in Second Life way back in the early 2000s and no, FF14 venues don't come close to how it was in Second Life. The charm of SL was that you just needed to be on the premise to hear the music the DJ (or radio) was playing or what they were saying. What you/others wore, saw and heard was right there on your and everyone's screen; no mods and other "outside" sources required.
In FF14, you need to have mods to see what everyone is actually wearing or if they have modded dances otherwise it's everyone doing the Bees Knees dance. You need to join some Twitch stream or a Discord server to hear the music the DJ is playing otherwise it's just silent or in-game music.
Yes, venues can be fun if you find the right one but it's nowhere near the freedom of SL. It's a totally different beast; to say FF14 does it better is a weird comparison to make.

Both CLL and Dal are tuned to be doable by a bunch of randoms who just hit zone level cap, and both versions of Delubrum are just standalone duties that use Bozja's mechanics. The only other thing in the game that functions like FT is BA.
