Tron was the program that got things going by snooping around, keeping track of the MCP. As a weird coincidence, most versions of BASIC of the era when the first movie came out had a TRON command that mean TRacing ON. The creators of the movie say they came up with TRON as being short for Electronic and they knew nothing about the BASIC command.
