It really depends on the game. Ninja Gaiden is still garbage, but Catan runs just fine. But it's far more stable than Xenia Canary.

Could have been LXDE, who knows. I did the whole XDG thing and it didn't do shit. But interestingly, that carried over and all I had to do was remove the sym.

That's how I do it. If the ancient deb repo doesn't have the latest libxxxx.whatever, I just flatpak it. I avoid flatpak as much as possible since it takes up so much space. For the emulators, I've just been using app images for the most part.
