>out of date
Testing it for stability before releasing it into the wild is not being out of date. If that would be the case then only buggy, unstable and crashy software with zero testing would not be out of date.
>then sit on it for 5 years
There have been new Debian releases about every two years so why are you staying on the same release for 5 years if you don't want to? Sounds like a skill issue.

Give me solid and well-tested over bleeding edge and buggy any day.
This shit still gets patched, you know. It just doesn't get new feature updates.
We don't all need new features every week when we have actual work we need to get done and just need to be able to use our computers. You'll understand one day when you're older and have real-world responsibilities.

Outdated is a matter of perspective.
It's not the newest, but the software it has is well tried and tested, with many of the bugs worked out. And stuff still receives patches as needed.
Remember, when you add new features onto software, you also add new bugs. Not everyone wants to deal with those bugs, especially when they need it to work tomorrow like it did yesterday.
What matters is that it has the features someone needs today.

I'd say this update is pretty good
4 extra FPS on the latest build of dolphin
Consistent 30 FPS now on Halo split screen on XEMU (as opposed to 19 in rough areas like Assault on the Control Room)
PCSX2 was always max FPS, no improvement here
1-2 extra FPS on RPCS3.
Flatpak has been fixed. The applications now finally show up in the start menu, so the symbolic link to .local/share/applications is no longer needed
I think AMD fucked up their drivers because XEMU gets a crash so bad on OpenGL that I had to switch back to Vulkan. Typical women drivers.
Didn't have any problems with the transition from 12, which transitioned from 11.
There's only one problem I might be having. I can't tell if it's me, but it seems like the cursor likes to have the top left corner selected at all times. Like when I click a folder, it'll select all folders from the top left corner to that folder sometimes. Could be LXDE's fault.

Should I use flatpak for stuff that's not in repos? I'm used to have one or two distroboxes with arch for that (i.e. to have access to AUR pkgs outside of Arch and to have them "isolated"). Now I have one for all sorts of typing training programs, and other exclusively for compiling anki's latest version with yay, since anki is outdated almost on all repositories (developer is a M$ bitch)

Did you know that the dust you see floating in the air is mostly composed of dead human skin cells?.
Every day you're around other people, you're "breathing" them in and carrying their DNA with you in your nostrils' mucus (and often into your very lungs). Right now, around 20% of that DNA is from thousands of pedos, a similar amount to the lines of code written by other pedos in all the software you've ever used.
Now, what's worse? Breathing or using a computer? For you, it maybe breathing, you don't know how many criminals you carry within you. You should stop breathing, you filthy pedo-enabler.

First class stability and opinionated defaults that basically "just werk"
If you need an appliance that you don't want to think about for 3-4 years and just do it's job without needing to update and breaking changes happening underneath you, other than small security updates, Debian is great.
If you tried that with Gentoo or arch you're likely gonna have issues, because arch and gentoo are rolling release distros.
Don't get me wrong I like all 3 distros, I've used all 3 and arch or gentoo could be better for certain jobs, but Debian is great for stuff as well.

i know the stability of debian stable. i'm talking about the performance. i have never seen anyone who says debian is for heavy tasks like gayming, audio/video editing, or even s/w development. it's literally built for server, not for desktop
Anonymous No.106207452 [Report]
>>106207367
Debian was originally billedthe universal operating system.
Performance can be whatever you want it to be. It was the first distro that had real time kernels distributed, so audio/video workloads are supported for it. And as for gaming, it was used by valve for steam and is still used for steam container run times. If you play a game through proton, you are launching a Debian container, if you play a Linux native game on steam, unless you manually disable the container runtime, you are playing in a Debian container.
Debian is used in most appliance OSs like routers, AV equipment(when it's based on Linux), VM appliances like proxmox, it's the base of Ubuntu, hence the base for mint and any normie friendly OS. It's just a great all around OS.

I will be saying it for the next 4 years, but Forky has to be one of the dumbest names for a distro that ANYONE could have come up with. And what's funnier is that it comes off the backs of Bookworm (elder god tier name for a distro) and trixie (solid name for a distro). Four years of this, since Forky will be testing for two, and then stable for another two.

oy vey

That's how I do it. If the ancient deb repo doesn't have the latest libxxxx.whatever, I just flatpak it. I avoid flatpak as much as possible since it takes up so much space. For the emulators, I've just been using app images for the most part.
