That was possible because the US invoked article 5 due to 9/11 attacks which happened on US north american soil. The article 5 only applies to territories in europe or north america, so even if the yanks to stir up the chink hornet nest and get a couple of bases in the pacific whacked, NATO is not obligated to help. Why do you think the bongs couldn't call on the entire alliance when argies got uppity and tried to take the Falklands?
