had a split case on one of my berthiers.
fired 4 rounds no problem, 5th cracked, smoked a bit.
its an older ppu factory round.
the rifle has a balle N chamber, so its a generous sized chamber.
like on all my berthiers the brass comes out a bit bulged, but this is the first split case.
rifle is all numbers matching and proof shot (german proof, 15 yrs. ago).

is it true that split cases happen in berthiers due to oversized chambers, esp. with ppu ammo (they load to tight icp dimensions, sometimes hard or little annealed brass)?
armorer says he doesnt really know, dont fire too much out of it.
headspace seems ok.
chamber no visible rust pits or other damages.
thoughts, /k/, has someone experienced this too?
