I don't think they are harder.
I did UDoALG first try.
UM can be pretty easy if you get good RNG.
Granted there are some easy older games as well (like MoF) and harder newer games(LoLK), but I think the difficulty is somewhat even across the mainline games.
Or maybe I can't tell anymore because it's been a while since I really played the games.
