I'm pretty sure it was speced for RFN 7.62, but they opted for lower pressure ammo to extend out the service life and reduce recoil during automatic fire. However nowadays even the last production Type 64s are 35 years old and pretty worn out, so RFN 7.62 would just chew through what remaining life they have left.
