Makes sense since ch2-5 were supposed to be released together. Supposedly, you would've gotten the thorn ring organically in ch5, either through progressing the story or beating a secret boss.
Then discovering the weird route and seeing that you get the thorn ring in ch2 would've been an "oh shit" moment because you'd know it's a ch5 item that you're not supposed to get at this point. It really would've added to the "weird" factor.
