Fully autonomous AI churning out anything resembling something decent is still a long way off. You need *someone* to manage the AI bots, and Indians can do it for 60k with zero (0) benefits, plus they can't quit/risk being fired or they get shipped back to Mumbai, so you can abuse them all you want with no fear of retaliation.
Also, nobody but AI company CEOs are pretending the layoffs are due to AI. It makes simple tasks easier but increases efficiency by between -10 and 5% right now. Meta was supposed to wipe out half their devs and replace them with AI but its AI can barely make a website with okay functionality.
