More than anything it was probably more a reference to Ed Wood, which is a biopic about, well, Ed Wood. Really fun movie, and while it isn't completely accurate it makes watching his actual movies pretty entertaining knowing a little more about the man. Even if you won't watch his shitty movies, the movie called Ed Wood is really good.
