If Unicorns could telepathically share thoughts and sensations via touching horns together, that would help explain why Unicorns are often snooty toward the other races. They don't approve of cross-race relationships too much because if a Unicorn marries anyone who is not a Unicorn, they miss out on a deep metaphysical type of intimacy that you can't get unless both partners are Unicorns.
