Single Cell organisms do it by replication. Bees & Ants do it by serving the hive. Animals do it by reproduction. Humans are a bit of a hybrid where reproduction is the answer for most people but given we have the ability to make great change that is more impact on humanity than passing on genes, i'd say it's to live life in a way that we think is meaningful.
