>tfw turned 33 this month

It makes me feel so fucking depressed. I know eventually I'll forget about it and go back to living my life but at some point again that random jolt of electricity will hit me again and that panic will set in that I have finite amount of time on this planet. I really should get my shit together and call my ex and tell her how I feel instead of ignoring her texts....I know I probably won't though.

Yeah I totally get that. When I was working and in a relationship I didn't really get that feeling at all. Maybe it was because I was so distracted by bullshit in life. I just don't know anymore man.

do you feel like your life sucks *now*? Do you have anything long term you're striving for, and more importantly, on the road to achieving? That may help.

My last job depressed the fuck out of me and took up all my time and energy. I couldn't pursue hobbies, and didn't have the passion nor energy to climb its ladder and that made every night filled with the feeling you described.

Sometimes, if I fell asleep before I got a panic attack about my own mortality, I would experience night terrors and wake up at like 4am with my body coursing(sp?) adrenaline

32, felt like this when I was 20. Now I just don't care. Life is not THAT interesting. When I'll die, I'll die. Already seen most of it anyway. Everything is just a repeat. Life doesn't really have that much content when you think about it.

The only time that feeling ever made me cry was when I was 10 too. I tried pretending to be dead. I cut everything off in the house. No TV. No lights. No anything. Just laid down in bed and closed my eyes and just tried to imagine being dead and it just made me cry. I don't think I thought about death again until I was in my mid 20s.
>>716295656
Yeah I guess I can say so. I've been NEET for the past 4 months. I haven't even tried finding new work or anything. I can't really say I'm depressed but I just feel nothingness a lot. Just no motivation or purpose.

I just read some posts about "quantum immortality" and the shit these dudes were talking about (mostly nightmares where they wake up screaming or some shit) is hilarious kek realistically though, I think death is more scary. Just for the fact that all I've ever known is my existence. Like I can't even simulate what death is like because all I've ever known is existing. It's literally impossible to me. And to me that's terrifying. I know people just say "well just imagine what you were doing before you born" but that's the thing I can't because I didn't fucking exist...that's the scary part. I can't imagine the ride actually ending but knowing that it will no matter what you do is horrifying. Whether you're a good person, a loving person, a piece of shit, whether you're a drug addict, a sex worker, a preacher, a doctor, it doesn't matter. On the flip side I wouldn't want to be immortal either, which I know that sounds stupid since I'm bitching about death. I guess I just wish we had more time. We always think there's going to be more time until there isn't. You'll have more time to do "X, Y, or Z", you'll have time to spend with your parents, or friends or family. You'll have more time to to read that book or play that game. Until you don't. If we all lived for at least 200-300 years I think I'd be okay with that. Like I feel like you could pretty much do everything you want to accomplish in 2-3 centuries worth of time.

I genuinely hope and pray to whatever is up in the sky that if we lived for 200-300 years, nobody would waste it doing nothing but posting on 4chan for 300 years. And the sad part is that even though I say that, I know there would definitely be people like that out there.

Well I quit WOW when I did /played one time around Cata/Mists and just on my MAIN character it was nearly 2 years of play time. That's when I quit WOW. Obviously I can't evidence it because I haven't played since then. But outside of that I have 2000+ hours in MHFU. I had 1000+ in MH3U, and in Dragons Dogma I probably have over 1000+ in total if I added up all the systems I own the game over. Then add a lifetime of playing games on every system since the NES/Amiga days.

My first game was Virtua Fighter 2 when I was 3-years-old, it's one of my earliest conscious memories. I've been playing video games daily since then, to the point I don't think there's more than 50-100 days in my life where I haven't touched a PC or console, and most of that was being grounded as a kid.

Do you not have a backlog? I haven't been playing much shit lately but I at least have been watching a ton of shows/movies that were on my backlog. I think by the end of the year, I will have watched almost all the TV series I have backlogged. My only issue is that I still have a ton of movies/anime I'll need to watch. As well as TV shows currently airing that will eventually need to be watched. The only good thing I can say is that I've been playing less online multiplayer bullshit this year and trying to focus on the backlog. I've finished 24 games so far this year, which doesn't even dent it but I guess it's better than nothing right.

Games I've played this year.
>FF7 Rebirth - Shit/forced myself through it
>Kingdom Come 2 - Got around halfway, never went back, but will still complete at some point
>LAD Pirate - Was decent, but very short
>Suikoden - This was a impulse purchase because I'm nostalgia fag, still playing through 2
>Expedition 33 - Probably my GOTY
>Death Stranding 2 - Enjoyed, but worse story than 1.

a) you weren't really conscious for your first 5 years so that doesn't count
b) average life expectancy goes up every year and when it's our time to die it will be even higher than today
c) stress is the big killer and NEETs don't stress about anything
In conclusion, my life is totally just getting started and I'm NOT in denial

Hm weird. I do wonder if my parents divorce subconciously had a huge effect on my relationship thoughts too. Luckily I went to Uni and had a great 5 years of nightlife, one night stands etc, but then once I got a job and reached mid 20s I've basically been living on my own in limbo for 15+ years. I own my house, car etc and I work from home. Whilst I love my own time I barely socialise now outside of maybe seeing friends on a birthday night out once a year or something.

What's that even mean? 3-Bed house. One room is my office/PC room, so work and gaming if I'm playing on PC. Spare room with my cupboards/clothes and a drag out bed if anyone wants to chill over. Bathroom is bathroom. Kitchen is kitchen. Main bedroom is my bedroom. Living room is for console gaming/watching movies etc.

The whole sleeping in a different room thing is a meme spread by real estate salesmen. And you can put a big screen right next to your PC. And you can have a foldable bed for guests. And you can remember that you are a man and don't need an entire room for storing clothes and accessories. You can still have a bathroom though. I'm torn on kitchen, having a kitchen in the same room is very convenient because you can always hear how your food is doing while you're at your PC. But the smells are invasive so it's a controversial issue.

Completely agreed. I cannot comprehend what kind of parents would get a divorce. You're prioritizing your own happiness over the happiness of your kids and potentially the other parent (if the divorce is mostly one-sided). How selfish can you be that you think you deserve happiness at the expense of so many other people?

>The whole sleeping in a different room thing is a meme spread by real estate salesmen
There are actual psychological benefits to your bed being in a different, isolated room away from your TV or PC. Your brain is simple to condition, and the simple routine of walking into that solo bedroom is enough to tell your brain "time for sleep." A lot of modern sleep problems stem from people's beds being in close proximity to dopamine-rich entertainment on their phones or handheld gaming devices, so your brain starts associating bed with high stimulation. Casually masturbating in bed also fucks with your sleep pattern too.

It's a fucking food questionnaire anyway, the "study" should only be used in the emergency that you run out of toilet paper. Human health "science" will never be able to "study" anything because actual Scientific testing on humans with control is completely fucking unethical for obvious reasons. This is why they cling to rat studies, which also can't tell shit about human health and diet because we're not rats.

No you're not kek. You could argue that humans are not obligate but are facultative, but even that I disagree.
Humans are arguably obligate carnivores too, because cats get the same diseases as humans when fed the same plant slop diet. So our modern plant based diet is afflicting us the same exact way it diseases other obligate carnivores. But that's not a hill I'm going to die on because humans can tolerate plant poisons a bit better than dogs and cats, but then again we tolerate almost all environmental poisons really fucking well. Humans maxed out int/res stats.

this year in video games from most invested to least

cs2 - the eternal game which quenches my thirst for combat & competition

dune awakening - 80 hours, really enjoyed it. had low expectations going in was just an impulse buy. glad I did.

kingdom come deliverance 2 - got past the wedding, stopped playing because of real life shit.. got a new pc since I think I may start over because I've lost touch with where I was at and my build sucked ass I was going for some stealth n style but I think ill just go for how the game was designed. 2h sword riposte.

My friendly neighborhood - a good short resident evil like experience. made me call my father. sometimes we need reminders that they too were once children with optimism and hope

titanfall 2 - holy reddit this is just not interesting at all and I love shooting games. why is it so hyped as a single player campaign? at a level with moving platforms and its just so boring. should I continue?

WAGMI bros. Only problem is anxiety is flaring up due to lack of problems in my life. I feel like I keep trying to invent scenarios to be mad at, and have to stop myself midway.
Also, been playing subnautica for the summer when I have the time. Bought it before all of the attack helicopter shit sadly. Would like to play below zero, but I haven't heard anything good about it, particularly not from the devs, so it's mostly just curiosity.

33, playing a bunch of game like

>sunset overdrive, the dialog is mega cringe and they even explicitly say NeoGaf at the very end of the game, it is near borderlands tier stuff but the gameplay was decent enough and some shit was clearly copy and pasted from ratchet and clunk games, like the weapons and how they upgrade and the ammo boxes. Might play the dlc that came with the purchase
>Brutal Legend is still pretty great and the RTS sections are really not as bad people say, one of the very first missions in the game tell all you really need to know about it.

I finally found peace by stop forcing myself to play every 9/10 and 10/10 game out there, a lot of them are just not of my taste and the praise doesn't change that at all. I've always been the kind that plays all genres but after almost falling asleep with one of those open world Western AAA slops that was the last straw.
Been playing Super Metroid and DK Bananza lately, it's been super fun. I don't know if I have the willpower to finish a JRPG right now, been exploring other hobbies so I try to keep vidya to not feel like a chore.

the only thing you should keep an eye on games are the ones with really low scores (aka games so bad that even paid journos couldn't give it a high score) and if the game you are interested in playing has any bugs or settings you should be aware off.
You will find yourself enjoying games a lot more than simply following whatever gets high scores.

To serve life in the way you think is best.
Single Cell organisms do it by replication. Bees & Ants do it by serving the hive. Animals do it by reproduction. Humans are a bit of a hybrid where reproduction is the answer for most people but given we have the ability to make great change that is more impact on humanity than passing on genes, i'd say it's to live life in a way that we think is meaningful.

Yup.
Thing is, i dont mind working full-time, except that it needs to be structured, not this hospital lab bullshit. And no, doing 3 night shifts in a row, 12-and-a-half each on my legs, is not conductive to my health.
I honestly started missing my old job in archives. Sure, its 8-4 or 12-8, but atleast you are the master of your own work and you spend half of the time sitting, and half of the time walking around the facility. Or that other lab where it was more sitting, but you still spent like 1/3 of time walking around from lab to lab in the facility. And i dont drive a car, so no work outside of the city because commute.

Right now i just want to get on with writing, and then write novels OR joint an editorial team. Fuck running around/working in the lab, or hospital, or corpo offices.

>keep playing games that are about roaming the open world and doing stuff in the open world

>just me and hardware
I think i need a job that is like that - me and equipment and nature and me being my own master. Maybe i should've studied engineering, and should get that driving license.

Why would changing the stock alert sound be any better? You can make it your favorite tone or song like a teenage me from 2005, but you’ll eventually hate it once you hear it 50 times knowing the sound is now associated with work.

I get a basic alert beep that overrides mute function on my phone because if something goes to shit and I’m on call, it’s on me to fix it. Hearing a little jingle of my favorite song isn’t going to make that any better. Fucking uniformed faggot

That's true, but still the company I work for laid off 15% of the workforce and has started using AI for a lot of stuff. At this rate getting a new job or even just a little raise will be very difficult for the low codemonkeys like me.

anything really, only games I don't like are sports games like FIFA or Madden or racing games that go for realism, but I enjoy stuff like Sega Rally on the Saturn or F-Zero X. Last game's I've played were RimWorld, Dragon's Dogma and System Shock 2, since I was too dumb as a kid to play it when it came out. In fact, this happened to me with a lot of games and now I'm living this personal golden age of vidya by rediscovering all the stuff I missed back then when I was a dummy. Played Thief not long ago and thought it was one of the best games I've ever played, and I am quite excited to try out Deus Ex next, or maybe Arx Fatalis.

I used to be in really good shape. Even though I was NEET in my early 20s, I would literally play basketball all day from like 1PM-2PM to sometimes 9PM or 10PM. Then play videogames all night long. Sleep til like noon and do it all over again. I stopped playing sports because my bitch ex used to complain nonstop about not spending time with her, when literally every waking moment I wasn't working, I was with her. We broke up and I kinda never went back to playing sports or working out and then the pandemic hit: all I did was play videogames, smoke weed, do acid+alcohol, and order UberEats/Doordash nonstop for like 5-6 months straight. I've probably gained like 70lbs in the last 3 years...it's pretty bad. I've kinda given up hope. I'm honestly thinking about just saving up some money and taking the Ozempic pill, so I can at least drop some lbs, so I can get back in the gym because my lower back is completely fucked now.

When I lived down south I wore jeans everyday. You eventually just get used to the heat and you don’t think twice. The main thing is just understanding that you’re going to be sweaty and uncomfortable. Especially on 90-100 degree days. At that point there’s no difference imo because you’re going to be hot no matter what and you might as well wear what you want

No you're just retarded and probably autistic so you can't comprehend or accept a different point of view.

You said don't date a coworker because if you get in to a spat you'll have to be around them at work and at home which is bad, but if you are already around them in general then it's not going to make a difference and having a spat doesn't mean your relationship is not going to work.

>Getting a higher education for a good job
Academia should be for people that truly want to improve their field of study rather than just schools to make people for the job market. Society was duped into making college degrees the bare minimum for a high paying job. The average person should be able to afford a good life with just a trade rather than rely on degrees. Degrees are for actual scholars.

I'm 42 and knowing I'm going to die some day makes me feel relieved, there's no point worrying about it, or worry about it knowing that your anxiety is based around you still being young and not wanting to die which you won't have when you're old. Later on in life you'll probably see death as more of a merciful release.

The problem is the release being so delayed makes it not so merciful.

It was a messy situation half a lifetime ago. I had mental health issues, I was no longer in mandatory education, school eventually decided it couldn't support me anymore and expelled me. I felt betrayed and let down as I'd been a model student up to the whole going insane thing, so I held a grudge but honestly I wasn't in the right mental state to learn anything. Now I'm older and saner so I'm forcing myself to get over it and work on getting a better future.

It's fine. I'm lucky enough to be in a situation where we can be single income, so I have a fair amount of time to play between chores. Even more time once our oldest starts school in the fall.

So glad I got out of working in tech.
>all that travel
>having to dress nice every day
>all those late night calls
>the creeping hatred of computers, one of my greatest passions, the longer I had to work with them
>all those dimwit boomers ruining my hard work because they can't go two minutes without sending their password to Ranjeet
>trying to explain tech concepts to non-tech people who think they know more about it than they do
Was in that industry in some capacity for almost 20 years

Bros finding definite integrals as the limit of riemann sums and vice versa isn't too bad. I mean you just got a section of a curve that goes from a to b, you're dividing it into n rectangles as the limit of n approaching infinity so it's all there, the width of the rectangles being the difference of the two points divided by n and and the height of each rectangle just being the output of the function of the curve where the input is x times the width of each rectangle or something.

brother, there is almost literally 0% chance you will get a job with an online degree in CS for the foreseeable future. even people with >5yoe dont get interviews right now lol

if you arent in your final semester and actually give a shit about your future at all, switch to something in demand. but if youre just fucking around then who cares i guess

not take out tens of thousands of debt for a degree that is already heavily devalued.

if i knew what i do now i would have went into medicine, which is actually in extremely high demand.

i wonder at least once a day whether i even have a future in this career and i have a degree from a real university and 5 yoe

but its just advice you can fuck your life up if you want to

Well the neat thing about cs is the overhead for new ventures is like $0 so maybe I'll just start selling my own software or computer service and ADD jobs! Or someone will see me trying really hard and will hire me to keep their computers doing the thing. Cmon there's got to be more cs jobs then people with cs degrees out there right? And I like computers.

there arent but if you have infinite free time, learn to make significant contributions to an open source project that people have heard of. its going to be an immense amount of work but you need to network. that is literally the only way someone is getting an entry level job these days.

and i mean you have to put in like literally 40 hrs a week for a couple years on end doing this sort of thing. its not easy. i am telling you right now you should not underestimate how fucked the market is and how hard the job actually is
