I dunno at what point everyone started pretending psychics aren't scifi. Huge amounts of formative scifi includes psychics because it was popular and treated a little more credibly at the time. It was a far out concept, but not considered more far out than hyperdrives and teleporters and matter replicators. A lot of people thought unlocking the secrets of the mind and doing things previously considered impossible was all in the same spirit as making robots and hovercars.

But now we're settled on the science so everyone wants to pretend it was never allowed in the clubhouse, ignore all the scifi greats that have it. It's just silly wizard magic now.
