I will now reference a different video game to prove that your base assumption is wrong
In the game World of Warcraft during TBC the warlock class used a lot of different spells, broguht a bunch of utility to any group or raid and also had pet management on top of spells and damage over time while having multiple ways to regain health and mana

All of that shit did not matter in raiding
You eat your succubus for a +Shadow damage buff
And you just spam shadow bolt
And you just keep spamming shadow bolt for all 8 hours or however long your raid leader could wrangle everyone to keep fighting

If you wanted to have "fun" and cast other spells you drop off the DPS chart, if you aren't spamming shadow bolt you are not the top warlock
if you are not the top warlock you don't get to play with the best of the best and get the fat drops
You will not get preferential treatment and the guild will not siphon all of their best cloth gear to you, because you aren't #1 on the dps parse

In a team game optimizing for efficiency > optimizing for your personal fun
Go play solo if you want to have fun
