Obviously, this doesn't exactly equate to appeal, since some characters are succesfull just cause people want to fuck them (hard to mess this up), or just cause they find them cool enough. Villains are more straight foward, just make them look evil and cool
However, there was a method to the madness and it's frustrating to see modern capcom designers fuck the formula.
Italian gladiator woman, that owns a pet lion is great... but they had to tack on a couple more gimmicks. Like having a gimicky helmet hairstyle, that's redundant cause she already stands out and has armor themed clothing. And also she's a jeweler.
They are scared to keep the characters simple, so they try to make them stand out, and they stand out (wrong).

Ingrid's 6 design rn, feels like a rei type ayy lmao that floats. A lot of this stuff you need to see in game, but If they keep it simple, then it's fine by me.
