The issue with people that didn't like Vtrigger is that everything bad about Vtriggers was added to the Drive System, all they removed was the cool shit.
I don't think anyone out there will say that Vtriggers were just 100% bad, each character having their own unique gimmick/mechanic was very cool in theory and was actually well done on a handful of characters, there were just a few where it was handled a bit poorly.

Almost all of the major complaints about SFV are still in SF6, the only thing they really fixed is the netcode and characters aren't as "stubby" anymore (though this isn't necessarily a strictly good thing either), every other issue with SFV has been amplified and made more obnoxious, so anyone that really hated SFV and wasn't just parroting eceleb opinions would realistically hate SF6 even more.

When big multigame tournaments are going on I tend to just check out shit like the Super Turbo or Third Strike tournaments and mostly ignore the SF6 stuff because its so ass that it makes me question if I even like this stupid genre anymore. This era of fighting games is unironically a dark age for the genre but we have corporate shills screaming "FIGHTING GAME GOLDEN AGE!" every 10 minutes on social media so the average casual fan just trusts them.
This feels like the late stages of corporate greed infecting a genuine community and abusing the good faith people have for the oldheads, like the FGC has been hollowed out and is being danced around on strings like a puppet

Something I find upsetting, is that whenever the conversation of wheter Ingrid fits the game or not, people always deflect by pretending that there was no rhyme or reason for the character designs in the first place. I don't think it's what people try to get at, but it almost feels as it they trying to say that it was never good.
It doesn't sit well with me to diminish what the sf2 cast managed to acomplish. You can argue that they are iconic due to being there a for long time, but that argument falls appart when consider, that despite all of them receiving a makeover for 6 (a game with it's fair share of shit newcommers), none of them truly feel fucked up. The foundation is just that solid.

The way I like to think of the world warriors, is as a collection of gimicky jobbers, meant to fill slots in a tournament arc in some fighting manga. They can only get so much screen time, so they need to stand out and show what they are about at a glance. Big russian wrestler dude, sumo guy, karate guy, karate guy but white, all american army dude, woman, etc.
This is perfect for an arcade setting, where someone touching the game for the first time can just pick whoever stands out for them.
When put in this context, characters like Blanka make more sense. His whole gimmick is being the one weird green guy that lives in the amazon forest. In this sense, he's not that different from the rest, if anything, it follows the same philosophy.
Guile's hairstyle is not a coincidence either, take that away and he's just some generic army dude. With nothing to stand out.
The martial art/nationality is just that, their gimmick and appeal.

You do see a departure from the tone of 2 in alpha, but you can still see this design philosphy. Just leaning more towards anime tropes for some characters.
Sakura is the sporty tomboy and Karin is the rich ojou sama. They fit the tropes, and represent them, without saturating them with traits.

In Modern there is no distinction between kick and punch, just a generic light, medium, and heavy attack system. So special moves that use the same motion run in conflict with each other in Modern.

The way this is handed now is that one of the specials become SP only meaning for that special locked to the SP button you can only do 1 strength level + OD. This limitation can be very detrimental hence why Bison Knee Press was changed to a motion input.

Now here is the current issue, Tiger high shot is QCF + P and Tiger low shot is QCF + K. In Modern this runs in conflict so one would become "SP" only but both Tiger shots are so vital to Sagat's game that he needs full access to both. So the question is how is Nakayama going to re-work Sagat's inputs to make him function in Modern???

actually looking at low tiger shot's speed it doesn't really look like a slow fireball that he'll be able to easily drive rush behind, maybe i'm wrong but maybe they just don't want that from him
