Yeah generally whenever I self insert, it often comes with the caveat of it coming in double as a power fantasy with getting mahou shoujo/touhou esque powers and what not, whilst it happening to anyone else comes with the struggle. That said, self inserting is less of a "what I want to happen" and more just "a hot fantasy to fap to" so to speak. I really don't mind wish fulfillment stories, but certain ones just feel overdone. Same can be said about the opposite ones. I'm just as tired of "MC attains their true identity and falls in love with best friend" scenarios as I am "MC accidentally turns into a girl and gets raped by their best friend" ones
