Scanning the surroundings yields little else of note in this hut until your eyes alight upon one particular piece of equipment on the wall: one of the many spears. Much like the skulls, you can’t deduce exactly what it DOES, but it’s DEFINITELY magical. Its tip is tripartite and pronged, though rather unlike your fishing-spear in design or function—it bears a long central spike like a regular spear, with small, wing-like side blades flaring up and out from beneath.

“Ooo…”

It’s obviously made for the much larger hands of one of the slumbering beastfolk, but you have big hands when you want to—big enough to brandish weapons made for Man or Beastman easily!

“Yoink~”

Carazzi has Monkey Grip, in case you forgot. She can wield weapons one size larger than usual.

You need to stand up on tiptoes to snag the spear, but snag it you do, admiring it in the firelight and even giving it a couple of swishes. When you hear a groan from one of the unconscious natives, though, you instead clutch the new weapon close to you in fright, as if you might hide behind it.

(Maybe if you shapeshifted real skinny, you guess…?)

No alarm is sounded, though—a whatever-taur child, disturbed by a tingly-feeling dream, rolls over and stretches for a moment before sliding slightly down the pillow and falling right back to sleep.

“Whew!”

You slip out of the oversized, hay-lined hovel and back onto the dirt path. You have only crept a few short steps when you hear the quiet thumping of hooves upon the turf. You freeze, frantically looking one direction, then the other. You hadn’t seen any guards…but maybe, being so mobility-focused, they instead post sentries to constantly stroll around and through the settlement? Whatever the case, you couldn’t have known in advance: the patrol-horseman carries no torch, no lantern.

(Which means these four-legged fuckers’ve got low-light vision, too! Shit!!)

This wide-open approach to civic planning around here doesn’t really afford you any alleyways to duck down or corners to hide behind—especially with a big-ass spear!

1 for Stealth…

The sound of the approaching beastman is coming from behind another building. The ambling trot suggests that you haven’t been detected yet, but how long will that last? Your knuckles go white gripping your new spear as you consider that you might need to bloody its blade mere minutes after picking it up.

Then, however, you catch sight of a flash of rosy pink from across the way, just barely illuminated enough by moonlight for you to register it in full colour. You lean forward and narrow your eyes; they go wide again as you recognize ZZ’s hand waving frantically, beckoning you inside.
